Did you know that research shows that responding positively to your baby can support their brain development? This helps babies to become secure and confident toddlers.
Feeding can be a time to get to know your baby and build that close and loving relationship by responding to the baby's needs for milk, comfort and cuddles.
You can do this by:
- Holding baby close and making eye contact during feeds
- Learning baby’s early feeding cues
- Calming your baby with skin-to-skin cuddles
- Pacing the feeds if you are bottle feeding
- Ensuring that you/your partner give most of the feeds, particularly in the early days
The Infant Feeding team can help you if you have any questions on how to feed responsively.
