Oral Health Training

Confident conversations about children’s oral health

HENRY’s Oral Health Training equips early years practitioners with the confidence and skills to support families in building positive oral health routines from the very start.

With child dental decay remaining one of the most common preventable health conditions, it’s never been more important for practitioners to feel confident discussing dental hygiene with parents and carers. This training supports practitioners to raise the issue of oral health sensitively, share simple evidence-based messages, and respond helpfully to families’ concerns.

What the training covers

This interactive training is designed for early years and health professionals working with families of children aged 0–5. It is delivered online in small groups to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Topics covered include:

  • The impact of tooth decay on a child’s health and development
  • The effects of sugar and how to support families to reduce intake
  • Tooth brushing routines and use of fluoride
  • The importance of regular dental check-ups
  • How to raise the issue of oral health sensitively and effectively
  • Building confidence to have meaningful conversations with families

All training is aligned with guidance from Delivering Better Oral Health: An Evidence-Based Toolkit for Prevention (PHE) and supports local oral health strategies.
