HENRY Launches New Cooking Programme to Support Healthy Family Meals

UPDATED 4th July 2025.

We’re excited to introduce HENRY’s brand-new Healthy Cooking Programme, designed to help parents and carers feel confident cooking simple, nutritious meals the whole family can enjoy, without breaking the budget.

The six-week programme is already being delivered every term in Bradford, with plans to launch in Luton and other areas across the UK. It’s available to be commissioned in additional areas, offering a hands-on and practical way to support families’ health and wellbeing.

What the Programme Includes

Each session lasts two hours and is designed for parents of all skill levels, from complete beginners to those wanting to build on what they already know.

Here’s what participants will experience:

  • Hands-on Cooking: Parents choose the meals they want to cook during the sessions and are encouraged to recreate them at home, with the option to try new recipes between classes.
  • Healthy Eating on a Budget: The programme focuses on making healthy eating affordable for families, providing practical tips and advice on meal planning and budgeting.
  • Additional Learning: Alongside cooking, participants will also cover essential topics like:
    • Understanding what healthy eating means
    • What’s in our food
    • Food safety
    • Healthy food swaps
    • Managing portion sizes
    • Reducing mealtime stress
    • How to model healthy eating habits at home

How It Fits with HENRY’s Other Programmes

The new cooking programme complements HENRY’s Healthy Families: Right from the Start programme, and parents and carers can join either before or after participating a Healthy Families programme. Practitioners will work with families to help them decide which programme best meets their needs.

Parents taking part will leave the programme with practical cooking skills, a better understanding of healthy eating and greater confidence in providing nutritious meals for their families.

For Commissioners and Facilitators

This new programme is available to be commissioned across the UK. If you're already trained to deliver HENRY’s Healthy Families programme, you're nearly there, with a little additional support and valid authorisation, you can also deliver this course.
