Information for parents:

Introduction

HENRY is a local Oxfordshire charity and we are excited to have collaborated with the University of Hertfordshire to develop a new programme for young people and their parents/carers to support their health and wellbeing. The programme is currently being offered to only a small number of schools in the Oxfordshire area. It is a chance to take advantage of a fantastic opportunity for yourself and your young person.

This is an overview of what will be explored:

  • What it means to be healthy
  • Setting and working towards goals
  • Supporting young people
  • Understanding the human brain
  • What influences our decisions
  • Understanding and managing anxiety
  • Practicing anxiety management techniques
  • Setting boundaries
  • Supporting independent growth
  • Being active to support our health and wellbeing
  • Eating well to support our health and wellbeing
  • Improving our wellbeing
  • How to flourish
  • Understanding behaviour
  • What is mental health and wellbeing
  • Sleep
  • Communication and negotiation

What does it involve?

Each week we will meet with you online to explore the topics mentioned above. We are also evaluating the programme to see how it helps young people and their parents. To do this, we will ask for feedback on your experience of being on the programme. You will be instrumental in shaping its further development by telling us this information. So far, we have found people are interested in having their voices heard and being at the forefront of a new, innovative programme!

Why should parents take part with their young person?

We have listened to young people who have told us that they feel it would be really beneficial to have their parents/carers involved. We expect the programme to be more successful for young people when their parents/carers are involved too. Therefore the programme is designed to be delivered to both yourself and your young person. However, young people can join the programme without their parent/carer signing up.

When?

The programme will begin on Monday 10th October 2022 and run for 8 weeks (with a break for half term). Parent sessions will take place online via Zoom. Sessions will be on Monday evenings from 7pm - 8.30pm.

How do I take part?

To sign up please complete the form, which can be accessed via the QR code or by clicking here. If your young person is under 16 years old we will ask you to provide parental/guardian consent for them.
