Mentoring and Certification
Local Area Trainers
Local areas trainers follow a different process to that of internal HENRY staff and freelance trainers. Each new trainer will take part in the following
- Core Training as Participant
- Training for Trainers as Participant
- Core Training as an Observer
- Core Training Mentored
- Core Training Mentored
- Core Training Certified
When mentoring please make contact with the trainers from the area at least 3 weeks prior to the training to discuss splits and logistics.
This guide details what the expectations are on you as a mentor in terms of supporting new HENRY trainers
These are the key competencies and skills that all trainers are working towards during their mentoring process
These are the form that needs completing after each mentored training along with an example of what a good one looks like to help support in completing the forms. All completed forms should be shared with the mentee and katie.sutton@henry.org.uk
- Core Training 1/3rd Split 2 Mentee
Please use only trainer 1 for a one-third split, with the mentor acting as both trainer 2 and mentor for the first mentored training if only one mentee.
Please agree a training split with the mentee(s) in advance of the training. These are examples that can be used as a start point but should always be agreed between both trainers.
For use in TFT areas when certifying (Supervising) a trainer as the final step in their mentoring journey, The Mentee will fill out the majority of the form with the Supervisor filling out the final Strengths and Next Steps. You will be informed before the training if the training is a certified or mentored. All completed forms should be shared with the mentee and katie.sutton@henry.org.uk
Freelance and Staff Trainers
HENRY staff and freelance trainers follow a different process to that of local area trainers. Each new trainer will take part in the following as a minimum. All trainers will have a minimum of 2 mentored trainings however more can be offered as required.
- Core Training as Participant
- Training for Trainers as Participant
- Online GFT Training as Participant
- Online Programme information and admin Training as a Participant
- Core Training Mentored
- GFT Training Mentored

After the second mentored training the HENRY training manager will contact the mentor for an informal chat prior to meeting the mentee for trainer sign off their training.

At the end of the mentoring process after at least 2 mentored pieces of training the new trainer needs to download the document above and complete the self RAG (Red, Amber, Green) rating against each of the trainer competencies. Once complete new trainer to arrange a meeting with Katie Sutton katie.sutton@henry.org.uk to complete the remaining parts of the form and sign off on the completion of the training process.
